Robert MacKenie, Suzy Jackson, and Nick Cordero read the story (Simon Pulse, 2012) by Jodie Picoult and her daughter, Samantha van Leer, that moves between the perspectives of the two main characters with passages from the fairy tale interspersed.
When the hero of her favorite fairy tale comes to life, Oliver and Delilah join forces to get the prince out of the book and away from the life he despises. What really resonates with Delilah is the fact that Prince Oliver has grown up without a father, just like she has, and she believes that he would understand her better than anyone else. He attempts to make contact with 15-year-old Delilah, who is somewhat of a loner and escapes her sometimes depressing high school life through her favorite books, particularly Between the Lines, a fairy tale that she discovered in her school library.
Gr 7-10-Young Prince Oliver wants to escape the pages of the book where he lives and does the same things with the same characters in the same way every day. She writes young adult novels with her daughter Samantha van Leer including Between the Lines and Off the Page. She also wrote five issues of the Wonder Woman comic book series for DC Comics. She received the New England Bookseller Award for fiction in 2003. My Sister's Keeper was made into a movie starring Cameron Diaz. Her other works include Picture Perfect, Mercy, The Pact, Salem Falls, The Tenth Circle, Nineteen Minutes, Change of Heart, Handle with Care, House Rules, Sing You Home, Lone Wolf, Leaving Time, and Small Great Things. Her first book, Songs of the Humpback Whale, was published in 1992. Immediately after graduation, she landed a variety of jobs, ranging from editing textbooks to teaching eighth-grade English. She published two short stories in Seventeen magazine while still in college. She received a degree in creative writing from Princeton University in 1987 and a master's degree in education from Harvard University. Jodi Picoult was born in Nesconset, New York on May 19, 1966.
